New Delhi: Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice D K Jain, who was the chairman of a committee for initiating impeachment against Calcutta High Court Judge Soumitra Sen accused of misconduct, has withdrawn from it citing “personal reasons”.
In a letter to Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice President Hamid Ansari, Justice Jain expressed his inability to continue in the committee for personal reasons.
Justice Jain has forwarded a copy of his letter to Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan.
“I have received a copy of the letter from Mr Jain about his inability to continue with the committee because of personal reasons,” Justice Balakrishnan told PTI.
The CJI said he would have to find someone else as the committee has to be headed by a Supreme Court judge.
The other members of the committee are Punjab and Haryna High Court Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur and eminent lawyer Fali S Nariman.
