New York: Can snoring help you lose weight? Maybe, but it's probably not the best way to do it.
The next time your wife wakes you up because you're snoring, tell her you're burning calories.
A new US-Turkish study found people with serious sleep apnea, a condition that causes excessive snoring, burn more calories than people with only mild cases of the disorder.
Researchers looked at patients with various signs of sleep problems and measured the calories they used while sleeping.
Those with severe sleep apnea burned close to 375 more calories a day, the same amount they would burn during a vigorous 30-minute workout in the gym.
However, doctors warn this is not a good way to lose weight. Sleep apnea has been linked to high blood pressure and heart problems, because of the stress it puts on the body's airways.
