New Delhi: Films, premieres and then some charities, Cannes has it all.
The glam brigade gathered at Moulin de Mougins in Cannes to raise funds for amFAR: a foundation for AIDS research.
Hosted by Sharon Stone and Robin Williams, the charity auction saw Hollywood actor Samuel Jackson, musician Wyclef Jean and the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson attending it.
Sir Elton John's red piano and fashion designer Giorgio Armani’s black diamond necklace also came under the auctioneer's hammer.
Another film to hold its international premier at Cannes was America: Freedom to Fascism.
Aaron Russo's hard-hitting political documentary connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, voter fraud, and the implementation of Radio Frequency Identification technology to track citizens.
Taking no sides, the film hints at the US government taking on the characteristics of a police state.
Animation has finally reached Cannes now. Showing this year at the festival are adult animes Princess, Scanner Darkly and Azur et Azmar among others.
Princess, a Danish anime is about a priest on a mission to destroy all pornographic material about his dead sister.
Scanner Darkly is set seven years from now. Based on the sci-fi novel of Philip Dick, the film deals with drug abuse.
It stars Hollywood actors Keanu Reeves and Robert Downey Jr. Richard Linklater directs the part-film, part comic book.
Another one in the row is director Michel Ocelot’s Azur and Asmar that weaves a yarn of friendship and rivalry between an Arab and a European boy against a backdrop of the ancient Orient.
