New Delhi: Clad in gladrags and working the crowds Al Gore made a democratic appearance. Bringing a reality check to the festival, the former Vice-President of US was in Cannes with a serious documentary film An Inconvenient Truth.'
Spiced with wit and some chilling graphics, An Inconvenient Truth is Gore's take on global warming, which he feels can no longer be ignored.
"It is not a political issue or at least it shouldn’t be, actually it is a moral issue. We only have one planet and we all share the same future. And it is a question of survivability for civilization,” Gore said
Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the film will release in select theatres on Wednesday.
American fast food has also been videotaped and packed off to Cannes and it is thanks to Hollywood director Richard Linklater.
Speaking about the unhappy side of the ‘happy meal’, his film Fast Food Nation is vying for the Golden Palm at the festival.
Adapted from the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, the film stars Holly wood actor Ethan Hawke and singer Avril Lavigne. The film will release later this year.
Joined by the stars of his Oscar winning war film Platoon, director Oliver Stone was also present for a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival.
Srone is at Cannes for his new film World Trade Centre. And he finds it is the ordinary people, who link his new and old films.
"It wasn’t planned but it is a return for working class heroes, people who confront reality at this ground level," Stone said.
