Car bombs kill four in Iraq

Baghdad: Two suicide car bombs exploded in central Baghdad on Friday and initial reports said that at least four people were killed and 41 wounded, police said.

The blasts were also close to an Interior Ministry bunker at the centre of a detainee abuse scandal.

The bunker was raided by US forces at the weekend who found around 170 prisoners, some of them showing signs of abuse.

Iraq's Shi'ite- and Kurdish-led government and its US backers are fighting a mainly Sunni Arab insurgency that has fueled sectarian tensions ahead of a December 15 election.

The prisoner abuse scandal has raised tensions again because many Sunni Arabs blame the Shi'ite-led interior ministry for allowing militias and police "death squads" to harass and detain Sunnis suspected of involvement in the insurgency.

The Prime Minister has promised a full investigation in the attack.
