Cargo ship MV Rak sinks off Mumbai coast

Mumbai: A cargo ship has sunk off the Mumbai coast. The ship, MV Rak, was coming from Indonesia to Gujarat carrying 60,000 metric tonnes of coal.

After ingress of water was reported from the ship a joint team of Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy personnel launched a rescue effort and brought out all the 30 crew members safely. All the crew members on board were Indians.

Indian Coast Guard's Samudra Prahiri was pressed into the rescue operations. The ship is about 20 nautical miles away from the Mumbai coast.

One Chetak and Sea King helicopter each have been deployed while Indian Navy's INS Veer is also in the vicinity to help in the rescue operation.
