Cash awards for Mary Kom after London bronze

New Delhi: Money has started pouring in on London Olympics bronze medallist MC Mary Kom.

On Thursday, Manipur’s government announced Rs 50 lakh cash award for the five-time world champion from the state. Also, the mother of two will be given two acres of land. She has also been promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Meanwhile, the Assamese government has announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh to the boxer. She has also been offered to open a sports academy in the state.

Manipur and Assam\'s governments shower money on the five-time world champion following her medal.

Mary Kom lost to Great Britain's Nicola Adams 6-11 in the Women's Flyweight (51kg) semi-final on Wednesday, thus settling for a bronze medal.

She is the first player from Manipur to have won an Olympic medal. She is also the first Indian woman boxer to have bagged a medal at the Olympics.
