New Delhi: Delhi Police Crime Branch on Monday questioned Samajwadi Party MP Rewati Raman Singh and BJP's Ashok Argal in the cash-for-votes scam.
It was Rewati who had allegedly made the offer to Argal to support the UPA during the trust vote in 2008 at a fixed price.
Rewati Raman was questioned for little over an hour. He maintained the stand he had taken before the parliamentary committee, that it was Argal who called him over to his residence as he wanted to leave the BJP and join the Samajwadi party. But this was totally rubbished by Ashok Argal who was questioned next.
"You should ask Raman why he came to my residence at that night. I will never leave the BJP till I'm alive," said Argal.
Argal told police that Rewati approached Argal on behalf of Amar Singh. He also said that Amar Singh struck the deal with them and made him talk to Ahmed Patel on the phone. Argal also informed that Singh's secretary Sanjeev Saxena came to give him the bribe money.
But Argal's comments weren't accepted at face value and the police asked Argal for the names of politicians who approached him and about the BJP leaders who were aware of this deal being struck.
So what was the cash for vote scam about? Was it a case of bribery or was this entrapment The investigations from here on will be focusing on this basic question.
