New Delhi: Fidel Castro is recovering from his prolonged illness after transferring power to his brother, 10 months ago.
The Cuban leader is back on a diet of solid foods and he seems to be doing well. Castro revealed his health problems to the state-run newspaper, Granma, in an email.
Having given up smoking a long time ago, the Cuban leader now feels the need to take better care of his ageing body.
However, he refuses to disclose when he would return to active politics.
US intelligence sources had in October 2006 said that Fidel Castro is in the terminal stages of cancer.
The website Times.com reported Castro's terminal illness saying his condition was critical and that he was unlikely to return to power.
However, at that time, the Cuban government had released a counter statement saying that Castro was simply recovering from an abdominal surgery.
Castro has ruled Cuba with an iron grip for the past four decades, after usurping power in 1959.
He handed over power to his brother Raul on July 31 after undergoing emergency surgery for intestinal bleeding.
