New Delhi: The results of Common Admission Test, for admission to prestigious IIMs and other leading management institutes, was announced on Tuesday.
The IIMs have prepared a list of students on the basis of their performance who will be invited for group discussion and personal interviews, IIM Lucknow Director Professor Devi Singh said.
"Results of all the candidates are available on the website. We have made the list of the students to be invited for group discussion and personal interviews," he said. About 2.3 lakh B-school aspirants had appeared test on November 18 last year. The results are available with all the IIMs. The results were put out on www.catiim.in also.
Nearly 5,000 students will be able to get admission to the seven IIMs, including IIM Shilong, which will start functioning from the coming academic session.
The scores can be accessed by keying in the test registration number and either the date of birth or the CAT application number.
However, the details of the date and venue would be made available to the candidates by post as well as on IIM websites. The scores can also be obtained telephonically and through SMS.
Students failing to get into any of the IIMs can try their luck at the 111 management schools, which use CAT scores for students intake.
The CAT exam last year presented a number of surprises in view of different pattern of question papers. There were 75 questions - 25 each in the sections of mathematics, language and data interpretation. The question paper, particularly of Mathematics, was very tough.
The exam was held at 23 cities across the country. About 35,000 students from Delhi region alone had appeared the test. Based on the results declared today, over 100 non-IIM management institutes that take CAT scores would start making their own cut-off marks for sending out call letters.
As per the initial trend, experts believe that students having scored an overall 99 percentile are likely to get a call from one of the IIMs. The final selection is based on the performance in all three levels of the test - the written exam, personal interview and GDs.
"Candidates who have scored an aggregate of 90 percentile in each of the three sections -- English, Mathematics and Data Interpretation -- apart from scoring an overall 99 percentile stand a good chance of getting a call from the IIMs," management education training chain Career Launcher's Vice Chairman Gautam Puri said.
Each of the six IIMs has its own selection criteria, as such, the sectional cut-offs and overall score needed to get a call from one IIM might not be sufficient to get a call from another IIM.
IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta would send interview calls purely on the basis of the CAT scores, whereas IIM Bangalore and IIM Indore have clearly stated that in addition to CAT scores they would be considering past academic record and work experience while sending interview calls.
While, the weightages assigned to these criteria could well be different for each IIM, at the time of final selection all six IIMs would use a combination of all the criteria.
Other leading B-schools accepting CAT scores include International Management Institute, K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research, Management Development Institute, Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad and S P Jain Institute of Management & Research to name a few.
