Cauvery dispute: Karnataka agrees to release water to Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: Karnataka on Monday agreed to release 1000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery daily to Tamil Nadu till September 19 to help it overcome its irrigational water deficit.

Tamil Nadu had filed a plea at the Supreme Court seeking direction to Karnataka to release 2 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water to the state to deal with its ongoing irrigational water shortage.

Monsoons have been deficient this year in Tamil Nadu and the state has already lost one crop of the current season.

Karnataka will release 1000 cusecs of water from the Cauvery daily to TN till Sept 19 to help it overcome its irrigational water deficit.

The state government said that if water was not released soon, another crop would meet the same fate.
