New Delhi: Expressing concern over the ongoing Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court on Monday said that Karnataka's requirement of drinking water should get precedence over irrigation needs of Tamil Nadu.
The court directed the Karnataka government to reply by Tuesday on its annual drinking water usage since 2007. It also said that there was a need to maintain a balance between the usage of water for drinking and irrigation purposes.
The matter will again come up in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
