Pune: Former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi who is facing arrest in the CWG scam is still defiant. He said there was no evidence of any wrongdoing by him and that the CBI did not find even a single rupee during their raids.
Issuing a statement in this regard, Kalmadi said, "The government and investigating agencies are doing their duty and I am fully cooperating. I do not need a media trial. I am always available to answer all queries to the agencies that are scrutinizing all documents. I have said before and I maintain I have not benefited financially from the games. The CWG was a matter of pride for India and we have conducted a great games that the world appreciates. I am confident all facts will emerge in public domain."
Kalmadi also lashed out at the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at the backdrop of the election for the Chairman of the standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation. Prasad Bidkar of the BJP won the election after the NCP and the MNS voted for him while the Shiv Sena abstained from voting.
The Congress - NCP alliance was in control of the Pune civic body earlier. The election has caused trouble in both the BJP - Shiv Sena and Congress - NCP alliances. The Shiv Sena abstained from voting while the NCP openly voted for the BJP.
Kalmadi said the NCP cannot be trusted. "People do not trust the NCP. Let us Congress workers start working hard. I came, so the NCP got scared and that's why they voted for the BJP. We have one year to go for the election." said Kalmadi.
