New Delhi: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has pulled up the CBI for failure to come up with names of the accused in its chargesheet in the Dera Sacha Sauda case.
The CBI is investigating Dera chief Baba Gurmeet Singh Ram Rahim's alleged involvement in criminal cases.
The court has given the CBI time till July 31 to form an opinion and submit a final report. The cases against Sauda include two counts of murder and one case of sexual exploitation.
Meanwhile there's been a cautious reaction from the Sikh clergy to the Dera chief's apology for appearing in a newspaper dressed as Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru.
Sikh high priests said they welcomed the move, but said they will meet in Amritsar on to consider their next step. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Dera chief chose to apologise not to the Sikh high priests or the community, but to the 10th Guru himself.
The apology came hours before the end of an Akal Takht deadline for all Deras to be vacated.
In a related development, the Supreme Court fixed June 4 as the date to hear a petition filed by Dera seeking protection of their properties against an ultimatum given by the Akal Takht to vacate them and stop their activities.
A Bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice D K Jain said there was no urgency in the matter for early hearing.
The Dera approached the apex court last Friday after the Akal Takht, the highest religious body of Sikhs, served an ultimatum to the Punjab government to close down all the Deras in the state by May 27.
