CBI lets go of Talwar's custody, has no proof

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Dr Rajesh Talwar, accused of murdering his daughter Arushi and servant Hemraj, was on Thursday remanded to 14 days of judicial custody after CBI said it didn’t want to interrogate him further.

The investigation agency has held a series of review meetings with forensic experts to discuss crime scene, and has had 10 teams look into various aspects of the investigation of the double murder case.

But even after the Noida dentist was put through a lie-detector test, CBI reportedly has nothing but circumstantial evidence against Dr Talwar, whose bail application will be heard on Saturday.

Sources say the only thing that the CBI has been able to confirm so far is that Arushi was murdered before the Talwars’ domestic help Hemraj.

The investigating agency says they have recovered a blood-soaked blanket and some other clothing with suspected blood traces in the Talwar household.

"Blood samples are still present on the scene of crime and some suspected finger prints, palm prints and other forensic evidence were collected from the scene of crime,” CBI Spokesperson G Mohanty had said earlier.

But apart from inconsistencies in statements given by Dr Talwar and his family members, there is nothing that pins the prime suspect to the crimes.

Arushi was found in her room with her throat slit on May 16, while the body of Hemraj, who was first suspected to be Arushi’s killer, was found on the terrace the next day.

The Noida Police arrested Talwar for the murders, saying he first killed the servant and then his daughter after finding them together in her bedroom on May 15 in “an objectionable but not compromising position.”
