New Delhi: The United Progressive Alliance-Mayawati rift continues to widen and the latest cause is who will investigate the Noida double murder case in which 14-year-old Arushi Talwar and servant Hemraj were killed a couple of weeks ago.

After the bungling by the Uttar Pradesh police in the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to take over the sensational double murder case.

Four days after Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal turned down Mayawati's request for a CBI probe into the Arushi murder, there seems to be a change of mind.

"There is a change of mind. The UPA government has now decided that the case could well be referred to the CBI. The government order to hand the case over to CBI will be given soon," Jaiswal said.

The Congress sees political merit in using the Arushi murder case against the Mayawati government.

With the Uttar Pradesh police facing criticism for its insensitive handling of a child's murder, the CBI can prove to be better equipped in handling middle class interest in this case.

The Centre hasn't been sympathetic to Mayawati at all. Of the eight requests for CBI probe at least four of them against Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Centre had turned down all but one.
