New Delhi: After a month of painstaking investigations in the Noida double murder case, the CBI appears to be coming around to the view that the father of the teenage victim and an accused in the case, Dr Rajesh Talwar, may be innocent.
Sources in the CBI say not a single piece of evidence has been unearthed against Dr Talwar as of yet. The agency also seems to be giving Dr Nupur Talwar a clean chit.
At the same time, they claim that the needle of suspicion is now pointing towards Rajkumar, domestic help of the Durranis and Krishna, who worked in Dr Talwar's office.
Durranis and Talwars are close associates.
CBI had taken over the case from the Noida police on June 1. Dr Rajesh Talwar was arrested on May 23 by the Noida Police and is currently in judicial custody.
Sources have said Talwar getting a clean chit in the case was not ruled out as none of the evidence had pointed to either his or his wife Nupur Talwar's involvement in the sensational case that has attracted nationwide attention.
"We do not go by the media trial. We have conducted our investigations in the most scientific manner and this case was unique in its own way as there were no eye-witnesses," a senior CBI official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
The sources pointed out that CBI officials simulated the possible sequence of events on the night of the crime to ascertain whether the Talwar couple could have heard Arushi's screams. The statement by Arushi's parents that they they did not hear her screams appeared to be correct.
