CBI takes over Arushi case, team visits crime scene

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday began investigations in the sensational murders of 14-year-old Aarushi and her domestic help Hemraj in Noida last month and formed a 25-member team in a bid to crack the case.

After re-registering the case filed by Noida Police, the team – headed by a Joint Director and accompanied by head of the department of Forensic Science of All India Medical Institute and Director of Central Forensic and Scientific laboratory – visited the scene of crime and spoke to some of the relatives of the deceased besides interacting with the police personnel who were probing the twin murder.

The Noida Police transferred the case to the CBI late on Saturday night. The police have also told the investigating agency that they have recovered a scalpel believed to have been used to kill Hemraj.

The 25-member CBI team visited the scene of crime in Noida’s Sector-25. The security around the Talwar residence has also been increased as the CBI team reached the house to interrogate Arushi's mother Nupur Talwar.

"Since she was one of the four people present in the house when the incident happened, her interrogation can provide vital clues," the official told a news agency.

Around 90 personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal have also been deployed outside the Talwar residence in Noida's Jal Vayu Vihar and barricades have been erected.

The CBI had, on Friday, received a letter from the Union Ministry of Personnel seeking its opinion on probing the murders. The UP government had also earlier sought a CBI probe after coming under fire for the UP Police's “shoddy” handling of the case.

The CBI would take in its custody the laptop of Rajesh Talwar and the desktop of Arushi for further examination in their laboratory.

Rajesh, who is a dentist, was arrested eight days after the double murder.

Arushi was found in her room with her throat slit on May 16 morning while the body of Hemraj was found on the terrace the next day.

The Noida Police arrested Rajesh for the murders, saying he first killed the servant and then his daughter after finding them together in her bedroom on May 15 night in “an objectionable but not compromising position.”

The police also said that he killed her because she had come to know of his extra-marital affair with a colleague and had threatened to expose him.
