CBI to book cops, Ashok Todi for Rizwan's death

New Delhi: Interrogations over, lie-detection tests complete, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is now wrapping up the probe into the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rahman.

Investigators are now absolutely certain that Rizwanur committed suicide under pressure and harassment.

The agency is preparing a chargesheet that is likely to accuse several people, including senior Kolkata police officials, for abetment to commit suicide.

At the top of the CBI's list of offenders are Rizwanur's industrialist father-in-law Ashok Todi and his brother Pradeep Todi, both to be charged with pushing the young graphic designer to suicide.

CBI sources have told CNN-IBN that four Kolkata police officials will also be booked for threatening and harassing Rizwanur.

- Deputy Commissioner Gyanwant Singh

- Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar

- Former Assistant Commissioner of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police Sukanti Chakraborty,

- Sub-inspector Krishnendu Das

Among others, Syed Mohiuddin, better known as Pappu, who runs an NGO and enjoys close-ties with some top Kolkata police officials, will also be chargesheeted for abetment of suicide.

Like the police officials, Pappu had also threatened Rizwanur of dire consequences if he did not divorce Priyanka.

Also on the list of those to be charged is Rizwanur's uncle Saidur Rahman, who allegedly received payoffs from the Todi family to convince Rizwanur to sign divorce papers.

How Rizwanur died has almost been solved and though it's not murder, offenders can be sent to at least 10 years in jail for forcing Rizwanur to commit suicide.
