New Delhi: A sting operation conducted by the CBI has revealed the nexus between smugglers and government officials in Uttar Pradesh.
About 300 metric tonnes of coal was captured during CBI's Operation Diamond. The raids have led to three arrests so far. CBI sources say the smuggling involves officials of the Northern Coal Ltd, staffers from the Railways and from the department of Forests. There have been reports of certain members of the Sales tax department being involved too.
Sources say that over rupees one crore worth of coal is smuggled every day.
