New Delhi: The man who is in the eye of the storm for reporting his subordinate officer, the Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami, has ruled out joining any political party after his retirement. He spoke to IBN-7, a channel from the network that airs CNN-IBN. He spoke about that and the politics within the Election Commission.
"There were certain issues within the Commission since almost a year ago. I did what I could to sort them out as I was concerned," said N Gopalaswami about the war within.
About the issue of the beleagured Navin Chawla succeeding him as the next Chief Election Commissioner, N Gopalaswami said, "I did whatever I thought was the correct thing. After it goes out of my hands, whosoever is the authority will take the decision and it is their decision."
Asked whether he would himself consider a political career after his impending retirement, Gopalaswami categorically ruled it out.
"When I propose that all Election Commissioners should be debarred from joining whichever political party, I think it is applicable and binding on me more than and before others," the CEC said.
