Mumbai: Most celebrities all over the world have their own private security guards, some even have small private armies. But the recent firing at actor Shah Rukh Khan’s residence raises questions on the credibility of private security agencies.
Physical fitness and training of security personnel are fully taken care of by the security agencies but are the background and temperament of these men suited for guarding a celebrity’s life? Their boss certainly feels so.
"We follow a strict procedure. Their credentials are checked by the police and the CID," Director, Tops Group, Diwan Rahul Nanda said.
But an armed guard from the same security agency killed his own colleague only a couple of days back. Both were entrusted with guarding Khan’s home, Mannat.
A resource strapped police say these private guards are helpful when it comes to maintaining law and order around a celebrity's home but their functioning is still to a large extent unregulated.
"These high profile people should use the police as an interface before using the services of these private security guards," Additional Police Commissioner, Mumbai Police, Bipin Bihari said.
Another question that arises is does Shah Rukh Khan need private gunmen protecting him when he already has state police outside his home? And are celebrities playing with danger in their attempt to be safe?
With most of the high profile personalities opting for the private security it's definitely a cause of concern.
