Goa: It is now a Centre versus state in Goa. The Goa Government's decision to scrap SEZs has the central govt up in arms.
The commerce Ministry today said that the central government would not denotify three notified SEZs in Goa. The Commerce secretary, G K Pillai also said that the state government has no locus standing to withdraw notification because notified SEZs are legal entities.
“The central government will not bear any compensation to any private SEZ developer affected by the state government's decision. In fact the Cipla SEZ in Goa already has a committed investment of 500 crore rupees.” said Pillai
Goa Chief Minister, Digamber Kamat has not yet been officially informed about the centre's decision not to denotify SEZs in the state.
He confirmed this as he said, “I have not seen anything till today. Nobody has informed me about anything. I am yet to receive communication from anybody. Till then I would not like to comment on this.”
