New Delhi: In the face of mounting demands that Hindu fundamentalist groups like the Bajrang Dal should be banned, the Union Home Ministry is finally taking action.
Central Government has sent a strongly-worded letter to all state governments asking them to send details of activities of the Bajrang Dal.
The letter says the activities of groups like the Bajrang Dal have tarnished the image of the country internationally.
There are allegations of the Dal's involvement not just of communal violence but for the first time, the Dal has been linked to the recent bomb blasts in the country, Centre says.
The Home Ministry says demand for taking legal action against not just the Bajrang Dal but all such groups is mounting.
Speaking to CNN IBN in an exclusive interview last month, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil had said demands for a ban on the Bajrang Dal had not been made by any state government as yet.
"There are politicians who are making the demands, state governments have not done that. No state government in the country has done anyting for banning any of these," Patil had said.
