New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Wednesday allowed the release of the song 'Mehengai' from upcoming Bollywood movie 'Chakravyuh', saying that in the contextual setting of the movie the 'song is not defamatory'.
The court suspended a single judge bench's order restraining the release of the song of the yet-to-be released film on a defamation suit filed by shoemaker Bata. The petitioner objected to the use of its name in the lyrics related to inflation.
Film-maker Prakash Jha, who has directed the film, challenged the single-judge order before a division bench of the court. The film is scheduled for release Oct 24.
Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Manoj Bajpayee, Kabir Bedi, Anjali Patil and Esha Gupta are in the star cast of the film.
Directed by Prakash Jha, 'Chakravyuh' is a political thriller.
'Chakravyuh' is expected to hit the screens on October 24, 2012. (All the stills have been taken from the official trailer of the film.)
Prakash Jha's last two films 'Aarakshan' and 'Raajneeti' created many controversies. Do you think 'Chakravyuh' will also face the same problem?
The film focusses on the issue of Naxalites. Manoj Bajpayee succeeds in surprising us with his new look.
After Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur', it will be interesting to see Manoj Bajpayee playing a Naxalite leader.
Arjun Rampal plays a police officer in the film. This lean look, moustache and the uniform really suit him.
Arjun Rampal is one of the extremely busy actors these days. Apart from 'Chakravyuh', he is busy promoting his upcoming film 'Heroine' and shooting for other films.
Known for his acting skills, Abhay Deol plays Arjun Rampal's friend in the film. He joins hands with Naxalites so that he can help Arjun in his mission.
However, after staying with them, Abhay Deol get to see the other side of the story. Abhay Deol was last seen in 'Shanghai'.
Esha Gupta who made her Bollywood debut with 'Jannat 2' will be seen in a de-glam avatar in the film.
Esha Gupta plays an IPS officer in the film. She says that she is ready to be moulded in any role.
Apparently, Jha was really impressed with Esha Gupta's confidence and her language skills, and that is why he asked her to be a part of 'Chakravyuh'.
Anjali Patil also plays a Naxalite in the film. She is a gold medalist from National School of Drama.
She won critical acclaim for her film 'Delhi in a Day', which was screened at Mumbai film festival.
Internationally acclaimed actor Kabir Bedi also plays an important role in the film.
If rumours are to believed, Katrina Kaif was supposed to be a part of 'Chakravyuh'. However, she said no to the film to accommodate Karan Johar's 'Dostana 2'.
The star cast of the film is impressive. Let's wait and watch whether Prakash Jha succeeds in wooing the audiences with 'Chakravyuh' or not.

The Delhi High Court has allowed the release of the song \'Mehengai\' from \'Chakravyuh\'.
The division bench of Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice Manmohan Singh said: "We are inclined to stay the operation of the impugned order."
"The movie raised the burning social issues like disparity in wealth, fight of value and thought...to bring out the public debate. I do not find that in the contextual setting or background of the movie, the song or its stanza is defamatory and prima facie derogatory to Bata," a judge said, posting the matter to Nov 7 for hearing.
Senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, appearing for Jha, said that the song was on YouTube since Sep 7 after the film got a certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, appearing for Bata, said the song was not written on the basis of research.
"The movie is dealing with a theme of social evils and in that background comes this song which would damage the company's (Bata) name," he said.
"You are portraying me as an evil in the song," said Kaul, adding that "the song shows that I am an evil sucking the blood of the nation".
Bata, while filing the suit, said the use of its name in a song on inflation was offending.
Justice Kailash Gambhir Oct 15, in an interim order, allowed Bata's plea that a satirical mention of the company's name in the song 'Mehengai' was defamatory, and directed that the song should not be released till the plea was decided.
