New Delhi: Chandigarh administration on Tuesday scrapped the controversial Film City project, losing Rs 47 crore deposit after a CNN-IBN expose.

Administration sources cite violation of terms and conditions of contract as reasons for the cancellation.

The mega land scam in Chandigarh allegedly involves Punjab Governor and former Army General (Retd) SF Rodrigues.

CNN-IBN had first reported that there were irregularities in the deal signed in 2007 during the term of Rodrigues as Punjab Governor.

Now a Central Vigilance Commission enquiry has reported on Rodrigues role in giving away land at an abysmally low price for the project.

The Film City project is already under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In the controversial land deal 30 acres of land, worth Rs 1200 crore was given away to private promoters Parasvnath Developers at for just Rs 191 crore.

The deposit money of Parasvnath developers will be forfeited. Parasvnath has threatened to go to court on the issue.
