Mumbai: Actor Shiney Ahuja has been accused of raping his 18-year-old domestic help. And if convicted of rape Shiney can face a minimum jail term of seven years, which will immediately affect the films currently under production featuring the actor.
Shiney's next big release would be Jahnu Barua's Har Pal co-starring Preity Zinta, Isha Kopikkar and Dino Morea. The film has been lying ready in the cans from quite a while now, having found no buyers.
However, with the lead actor now facing a rape charge, the film might not see the light of day any time soon. Shiney also plays a part in Vinod Pande's Chalu Movie made with a budget of Rs 4 crore. However, maker of Chalu Movie won't be having sleepless nights since Shiney has already completed shooting his scenes for the film.
"It came as a big shock because he was my actor, it is a shock because the person concerned is a celebrity. One's first reaction is very biased because it's an actor and a maid and you are generally judgmental. In a short term it's going to be damaging to him but can't say in the long run because there are people who reinvent themselves," said Pande.
Shiney also plays the lead in Pritish Nandy Communications' Accident with Soha Ali Khan. This Rs 10 crore film is reportedly 95 per cent complete, but still requires some scenes with Shiney to be completed.
"I have been asked by the production company to stop working on the film as of now. The film has come to a halt," said director Accident, Abhijeet Chaudhary.
Though Shiney is also said to be a part of the Hollywood film Silver Cord there has been no confirmation on this. With approximately Rs 20 crore riding on the actor's upcoming films - Bollywood will not face a crisis if Shiney is convicted, however all attempts by the actor to resurrect his career will come crashing down.
