Chargesheet on whistleblower officer revoked

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The chargesheet on Forest Officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi has been revoked with immediate effect by the Environment Ministry through a Presidential Order.

The Haryana government headed by Bhupinder Singh Hooda will have no choice but to drop the matter now. The revoking of the chargesheet comes after a CNN-IBN story, which highlighted the hounding of Chaturvedi by the Haryana government for having exposed several forest-related scams.

Sanjiv Chaturvedi, who blew the lid off several forest-related scams in the Haryana government, was chargesheeted for doing his job. A report prepared for the Cabinet Secretariat had in fact asked for a CBI enquiry against the bungling of funds by Haryana government, it also asked why the whistleblower was chargesheeted in the first place.

Chaturvedi, a 2002 batch forest officer, was paying a heavy price for doing his job. He has opposed the destruction of the Saraswati Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the endangered hog deer by the Hansi Butana Canal, and then for exposing a multi-crore fake plantation scam in Jhajjar.

However, the state government had issued a chargesheet and then transferred Chaturvedi 12 times in five years.
