Modi reconciles BJP rebels

Ahmedabad: Soon after its landslide victory in Himachal and Gujarat, the BJP seems to be in a charitable mood. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is actually making an attempt to woo the rebels back.

After winning back the peoples' vote, Modi extended the olive branch to the rebels within the BJP and even went to seek Keshubhai's blessings. However, the doubts remain if Narendra Modi actually meant reconciliation.

"I believe from the bottom of my heart, that we are all members of one big family. I kept quiet so far, because I knew that one day, we will all work together,” says Modi in an emotive tone.

However, whether Modi genuinely wants the rebels back in the BJP or not, it is clear that the rebellious factions neither have any place nor clout left within the BJP. And if any, their political future is only outside the BJP.

None of the rebels are willing to talk openly about their political future. However, sources say that Keshubhai Patel, the BJPs Bheeshma Pitama in Gujarat is planning to spend more time in the US than in India. Speculations about various leaders have been made. Sources say that Suresh Mehta, the former Chief Minister, does not seem keen to mend fences with Modi, and is unlikely to be a BJP heavyweight again.

Gordhan Zadafia says he will never surrender, however, his future with the BJP is almost over. He says he is not comfortable with the Congress either.

Kashiram Rana says he won't leave the BJP, and is talking of reconciliation.

Less than a month ago, they were busy cultivating an anti-Modi following with their fire-and-brimstone speeches. However, today most don't even have a party they can call their own.
