Che at Cannes and Madonna debuts as director

New Delhi: The red carpet premiere of Steven Soderbergh's two films on Che Guevera, The Argentine and Guerrilla, on Wednesday evening at Cannes saw an eclectic mix of guests like singer P Diddy, heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, supermodel Naomi Campbell, actors Natalie Portman, Michelle Yeoh and Julia Ormond apart from the two film's lead actor Benicio Del Toro who plays the charismatic Argentine revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevera.

Though, The Argentine and Guerrilla will be released separately, the movies were shown back-to-back at Cannes. The Argentine follows the Cuban revolution and Che's attempts to take on Cuban leader Fulgencio Batista back in 1956.

Meanwhile, Guerrilla focuses on Che's trip to the America to face the United Nations, following the revolution until his death in 1967. Both films are slated to release in May across Europe.

Wednesday night also saw 49-yr-old-Madonna and 60-year-old Sharon Stone scorch the red carpet in their black dresses for the screening of Madonna's documentary on Malawi, titled I Am Because We Are.

The pop diva-turned-director also had her director-husband Guy Ritchie for company further quashing all rumours of a divorce. In fact, earlier in the week, the singer was spotted in a racy ensemble while on a dinner date with hubby Ritchie.

As for the film, it highlights how AIDS and poverty have devastated Malawi, the same African country from where Madonna adopted her son, David Banda.

I Am Because We Are was premiered earlier at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
