Gupta has been working with utensils for the past decade and has made it his signature style.
"Utensils are my material, like artists paint in brush and colour, that's my brush and colour for making my sculpture,” he says.
He started with stainless steel because for him that defined the Indian home, cutting across all classes from the poor to the rich.
But after having played enough with stainless steel, he recently moved on to brass and copper. And now, it's something else: old used utensils.
"This is my first time with used material. This material tells u lots of stories. You can see the pain and people's suffering," he added.
But he has faced a lot of critisism. "An old pot people will not buy here, they will think, ‘big deal’, you’re selling me utensils, so what?” says Subodh.
But this criticism drove him overseas where his major market lies, mainly in Europe and the US and it's only recently that the Indian market has woken up to his unique art.
Just three years ago, in 2004, he sold at Rs 8,34,469 and currently, he has hit Rs 2,50,00,000.
