Mumbai: Actress Rani Mukerji has been maintaining a low profile. Even prior to the release of Ta Ra Rum Pum, co-star Saif Ali Khan has been promoting the film more actively than her. Yet, she has opted to play presenter for a fairly unknown Bengali film titled Bidhataar Lekha, under JR Entertainment.
However, this does not come as a surprise since this is her brother Rajaa Mukerji’s directorial debut while the actress’ mother Krishna Mukerji and sister-in-law Jyoti Mukerji have produced the film.
The film starring Jeet, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Hrishitta Bhatt, Roopa Ganguly and Sabyasachi Chakravorthy was premiered on April 12.
“I’ve always dreamt of becoming a director. It was important to start with a Bengali film as I understand the ethos and secondly, investments are low compared to Hindi films. The film’s budget is only Rs 2 crore. Bidhataar Lekha is a story based on re-incarnation and revenge,” Rajaa said excitedly.
Rajaa has even added an extra ‘a’ to his name to ensure the film’s success. Though, Rani has never resorted to altering her name, yet to support Rajaa in his maiden venture, the entire family including the actress have changed the way they spell their surname. Talk about sibling loyalties!
