Chennai: A class IV student of a prominent city school drowned in the institution's swimming pool on Thursday, police said.
Police identified the deceased as Ranjan, son of a Tamil film director, a student of the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhawan at KK Nagar in Chennai.
The incident occurred during the swimming period and when trainers noticed him in an unconscious state they rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

In another incident at suburban Chromepet, a four year-old boy was crushed to death when a milk-ladden auto ran over him.
The incident happened when the driver kept the van engine on and stepped out. The vehicle moved and hit Tamilarasan, who was standing nearby with his mother, killing him on the spot. The driver was arrested, police added.
