Chennai: A fast track court in Chennai has found a city-based orthopaedic guilty of running a pornography racket.
Dr L Prakash, now infamously known in Tamil Nadu as ‘sex doctor’, was an accused under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and pronounced guilty under the same.
Apart from Dr Prakash five other people were accused in the case and the court pronounced four men guilty while the fifth was acquitted.
This was the first case in the country registered under the Information Technology Act.
The court will pronounce the sentence on Thursday.
Prakash lured college girls and working women by offering them large sums of money to produce pornographic videos, which he sold through websites with the help of his US-based brother.
He was arrested in on December 14, 2001, after Ganesan, a man from Pondicherry, filed a complaint in the Vadapalani Police Station in the city.
Along with Dr Parakash, the others who were arrested included his staff Asif, Nixon, Vijayan, and Saravanan.
He was, however, was declared not guilty on charges of rape and attempt to murder.
