Chennai: Fresh violence at US consulate over anti-Islam film

Chennai: The row over the anti-Islam film has sparked fresh violence in Chennai with the police resorting to lathicharge to control the protestors outside the US consulate in the Tamil Nadu capital.

The police had to resort to lathicharge as the protests turned violent and pelted stones on policemen. The protestors also set some vehicles on fire.

Some of the protestors had to be chased by the police.

The Tamil Nadu government has transferred the police commissioner of Chennai over the ongoing protests in the city.

Meanwhile, the ongoing protests in the city have angered the state government, which has transferred the police commissioner of Chennai.

This comes just three days after members of an outfit called Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham held protests outside the US consulate.

The security at the consulate was stepped up following the incident on Friday.
