CHENNAI: Chennai now has a technology centre of the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) at the Madras Exports Processing Zone (MEPZ), which was inaugurated on Tuesday. AMT is an American association that supports makers and distributors of manufacturing technology equipment. The centre was inaugurated by Jennifer Mcintyre, American Consul General.
AMT’s Chennai Technology Centre provides an opportunity for Indian manufacturers to access the best of American manufacturing technology through better learning and contacts with manufacturing technology tooling and equipment makers based in the US.
Addressing the gathering Jennifer Mcintyre began by saying, “Thanks for giving me an opportunity to have my first elephant ride today,” and went on, “I’m delighted to inaugurate and witness this AMT centre. It is indeed a proud moment for the AMT to spearhead and establish this technology centre in the city of Chennai. This inauguration will not only promote US exports, but will also save Indian companies time and money. The Chennai Technology Centre is a testimony to the commitment that both our countries share.”
The American Consul General added that the two countries have a special synergy when it comes to business. Whether it’s in building infrastructure or developing the machine tool industry, American companies can help India achieve its goals. We need to recognise these synergies and make them work to our mutual advantage, she said.
Thimothy Bruce Dining, co-chairman, AMT, said, “This project has been launched to help and improve the Indian manufacturing sector in a productive manner. It will also benefit people from small scale industries.”
Knox Johnson, business development officer, AMT; Arun Mahajan, GM, Chennai Tech Centre, AMT, Anil Kumar Bamba, Development Commissioner, Madras Exports Processing Zone, Chennai were also present.
