Chennai: After the Mumbai terror attacks, the month-long music festival is under tight security. This is for the first time that this seasons music festival in Chennai has began under a heavy security umbrella.
Apart from the manual checking, door frame metal detectors, hand metal detectors and surveillance cameras can be seen across the sabhas (concerts) in the city.
“This year, after the Mumbai carnage, we as a premier carnatic music and dance institution decided to take the lead and install these systems to avoid any problem,” says The Music Academy President N Murali.
With more than a 1000 people attending concerts everyday, the police want to ensure a peaceful month of music festival.
“In view of the Mumbai attacks, I called for a meeting of the sabhas (concerts) and advised them to upgrade their security. I asked them to go for modern equipments like door frame metal detectors, hand held metal detectors and also trained security personnel,” says DCP Mylapore A G Maurya.
And, for the music lovers the security blanket is hardly a spoiler.
“It's the responsibility of the country to protect its guests and inhabitants. And by heightening security, they are working towards it,” says one of the guests.
The rasikas (singers) who go for the concerts have to go through a rigorous security check across the sabhas in the city. But they seem to have taken it in the right spirit. They all share a similar opinion and it is always better to be safe than sorry.
