Chennai: Additional Director-General of Police S George was on Tuesday appointed as the new Commissioner of Police. He replaces J K Tripathy, who has been transferred and appointed as ADGP (Prisons). George, a 1984-batch officer of the Indian Police Service, will take charge as the new city police chief on Wednesday, sources said.
A native of Thiruvananthapuram, George, is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds an M Tech degree from IIT and has studied MBA in the United States. He has served in various positions, including Inspector General of Police (North Zone) and IGP (Central Zone).
He was appointed ADGP (Law and Order) after the AIADMK came to power last year.
