Chennai: Two people were injured when a wall collapsed at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The incident happened on Wednesday morning after ticket sales for World Cup matches started at the Chepauk Stadium.
A heavy crowd gathered outside the stadium and some of them leaned on to the compound wall resulting in its collapse. A 23-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were injured and have been admitted to a hospital.
Chepauk Stadium officials said that the compound wall that collapsed was freshly cemented as a part of the renovation process for the World Cup.
When the crowd leaned on to the wall, it could not sustain the weight and collapsed, they said. Around 500 people had queued up for the tickets.
