BANGALORE: The state government has spent over `500 crore during past three years for the arid area and drought-area development projects, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda informed here on Thursday.

Informing that the state soil fertility map was being prepared for the first time in the state, Gowda said that the map would help farmers to know the content of their soil.

Informing that he would follow the footsteps of his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa and present a separate budget for agriculture, the Chief Minister said that the state government had achieved over 75 per cent of the plan outlay earmarked for the farm sector.

The state government-sponsored Bhoo-chethana programme has resulted in the increase of productivity by over 20 per cent, said the Chief Minister, adding that the programme would be extended to all the districts in the state soon.

“Thanks to the special focus given by our government, a record production of over 139.86 lakh tonne food grain has been achieved during 2010-11” Gowda said.
