China: China plans to evacuate 100,000 people threatened by rising waters of lakes and rivers blocked by the Sichuan earthquake.

Officials say 35 "quake lakes" in China which were formed in the wake of Sichuan earthquake and can cause enormous damage if they burst.

The earthquake has left a new mountain of debris, big enough to dam a river and create a new lake, already 70 meters deep.

The experts say one of the lakes is rising two meters a day. At that rate, even without rain, within a week, the water will begin to spillover the top and perhaps cause the dam to burst.

One of the lakes now stretches back five kilometers, it's drowning the now abandoned villages where until two weeks ago, 8000 people lived.

An earthquake survivor Li Ping along with his father has made two trips a day for the last 10 days, upriver on home-made rafts.

Today he's returning with what he has salvaged from his own home."We have evacuated more than 200 people on these rafts" says Li Ping.

People in China may not be able to breathe a sigh of relief just yet, as another natural disaster may just await the country.
