New Delhi: International Cricket Council has plans to spread cricket far and wide and one of their target areas is the world's most populated country, China.
China is a country that has a a great sporting pedigree.
They have some of the world's top players in badminton, table tennis, athletics and even volleyball.
Now the Chinese have turned their attention to cricket and the game is gaining popularity.
"Well, at first I thought it was very complicated because it was the first time the we used a bat and hit the ball. So I thought it was complicated. And then after a few months I got used to it. Now I am in the cricket team," a 12 year-old player for the National Institute of Technology Primary School team, William Wu, says.
Though the Chinese players lack in terms of skill and have just the basic cricketing gear, there is plenty of enthusiasm to keep addicted to the game.
Since it began in 2004, the Chinese Cricket Association has been actively recruiting students to expand its national programme.
It is hoping to make the country a power to reckon with in just a matter of a decade.
"The Asian Cricket Council estimates that if China could become one of the world powers in cricket, then the overall revenue for cricket - at least in this part of the world - will increase by 30-40 per cent. That is why they are so keen to get us into the cricket world," the director for the Chinese Cricket Association's marketing and sponsorship committee, Calvin Liang, says.
Well, if they continue to practice and play with all their determination, it will not be long before The Chinese team plays at the Lord's.
