China speaks out on IAS visa issue

New Delhi: China has warned India not to make an issue of bilateral differences, in its first reaction to the controversy over IAS officers not going there for training.

“China welcomes the friendly exchanges between the two nations. We welcome the Indian personnel to come and visit China and participate in the training programme,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu.

Yu avoided directly commenting on why an Arunachal Pradesh IAS officer was not given a visa.

He and 106 others were to undergo a two weeks training programme in China.

China claims Arunachal as its own, which means all Arunachal people are its citizens and therefore don't require a visa.

Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Dorjee Khandu has criticised China for denying visa to a bureaucrat from the state.

"China's claim is wrong and I appeal to the Government of India to raise and dissolve this issue with China because China keeps on claiming Arunachal Pradesh. They have denied visas to officers and this is the third time it has happened. Our government has good relations with China; so, it should try and end this issue so that people in Arunachal Pradesh have a sense of calm and peace,” said Khandu.
