Chinese cargo flights get security clearance

Beijing: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met each other at a private dinner on Sunday night.

The dinner, which is the first ever hosted by a Chinese premier for an Indian prime minister, lasted one and a half hours and was attended by key aides including National Security Advisor MK Narayanan, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister TKA Nair and Indian Ambassador to China Nirupama Rao.

Officials said China gave 'positive' signals on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The two countries decided that special representatives on border would meet on January15 to discuss the contentious issues.

The PM visited the Olympics village and also addressed an Indian business delegation on Sunday.

In other related development China's Great Wall Airlines has been cleared by India to fly cargo planes to Mumbai and Chennai.

"We have cleared from our side the cargo flights (of Great Wall) to Mumbai and Chennai," a highly placed source was quoted as saying by PTI.

It is expected that following the security clearance to cargo flights by Great Wall Airlines, China would also allow Indian carriers to start cargo and passenger flights to different destinations in the country.

The move to grant security clearance to Great Wall Airlines comes after China had rejected India's proposal for flights to Delhi only.
