Hyderabad: The Congress government in Andhra Pradesh couldn't have asked for a better end to the Winter Session of the Assembly. It survived the no-confidence motion on Monday by a comfortable margin of 38 votes. The session went on for a record 17 hours, before the Speaker announced what was expected.

N Manohar, Speaker, AP Assembly, said, "The motion of no confidence in the Council of Ministers headed by Sri Kiran Kumar Reddy is lost."

The kiran reddy government survived the trust vote with a little help from Chiranjeevi's party Prajarajyam.

With the the government confident of winning, the motion was more a test of the real strength of YSR congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy. And that's where the Congress suffered a minor setback. 16 legislators defied it by voting for the motion. They were among the 20 MLAs who had been meeting Jagan over the past few weeks.

In the end this is how the numbers game played out - 122 MLAs voted in favour of the motion, this included the 16 Congress MLAs turned Jagan loyalists. 160 MLAs voted against the motion and 1 abstained from voting.

The House vote came as a blow to the Telugu Desam Party that had moved the motion over the farmer suicides issue in the state. For party chief Chandrababu Naidu this is the second motion against the government that he has lost in 3 years.
