Jaipur: The family of Pakistani doctor Khalil Chisti has been granted permission to meet the Governor of Rajasthan on Saturday to plead for his release on a month-long visa.
Dr Chisti's wife, Meherunissa Chisti, said, "I appeal the Rajasthan Government to please release Dr Chisti in a months time. My visa will expire in a month. Everyone back home is really worried about him. Every year we have to celebrate Eid without him."
Dr Chisti's family member Shoa Chisti said that this has been a very difficult period, especially for her mother.
"I would like to request the Rajasthan Governor to please sign the mercy petition of my father on humanitarian grounds," Shoa said.
Virologist Chisti is lodged in Ajmer jail and is serving a life term for murder in a 19-year long case. His mercy plea is pending with the Governor.
Chishti, in 1992, was sucked into a family fight which led to a death, when he came calling on his mother from Pakistan. Yaseer, his nephew, and a co-accused in the case, was just eighteen then.
