Mumbai: He was Bollywood's favourite before he left to become Bangladesh's biggest star, Chunky Pandey is attempting a second innings in Bollywood.
"People have always told me 'Chunky Pandey, you are a very filmy character'," Chunky says.
Starting out his Bollywood career in 1987, Chunky Pandey came in the spotlight starring alongside Anil Kapoor in Tezaab and was later noticed for his comic timing with Govinda.
After a long hiatus from Bollywood, during which he is said to have created waves in the Bangladeshi film industry, Chunky Pandey is making a comeback of sorts.
"I have been paying producers to cast me in their films. And suddenly there has been a flurry of films," Chunky says.
Chunkey's supporting roles in Qayamat, Elaan and Ssukh got filmmakers like Ram Gopal Varma to sit up and take notice.
"He said he'd seen Aankhen twice! I burst out laughing that he'd seen Aankhen and he wanted to cast me as a gangster. He said he believed in the element of shock," Chunky says.
After playing Raghav in Ram Gopal Varma’s D, there's no stopping Chunky.
So, even as he is part of this week's Apna Sapna Money Money after that fleeting appearance in Shah Rukh Khan's Don, we know that he's serious about starring alongside Johnny Depp in the Hollywood film Shantaram and back home in Ahmed Khan's Fool and Final and Arjun Rampal's home production I See You.
As far as dream roles are concerned, Chunky says, "Dream roles? For me it's chicken roll, Mutton roll…"
Well some things never change.
