Ujjain (MP): Professor Sabharwal's son Himanshu refused to appear as a witness in court on Wednesday, saying the trial was a mockery of justice.
But it gets worse. Amongst those who were present on the fateful day when the Prof was killed was a CID cameraperson.
At the police post outside Madhav College, the Ujjain police CID had set up two cameras to monitor a Congress agitation.
“Right outside the Madhav College there are cameras which recorded the entire rally. The cameras remained there till 2 pm till the rally got over,” confirmed Congress leader Bom Shankar Joshi.
So what did he record and why wasn't he called as a witness?
“You tell me how many people would be there – there is a temple, a bus stand and cameras too,” asks a professor of Madhav College on the condition of anonymity.
According to a sketch released by Ujjain police, Sabharwal was assaulted at point Number 1(see map). It was at point No. 2 - Madhav College where four policemen - including an inspector, Dara Singh – were deployed.
Points 1 and 2 are just 15 feet from each other, and yet, not one of these policemen was produced as witness in the case.
The policemen say they did not see anything because these gates were shut.
In fact, the Ujjain police know a lot more because the CID cameraman - Radheshyam Chaurasia of the Police Photo Department - deployed at Madhav College would have had more to say.
This document clearly says that Chaurasia had submitted a video of the assault on Sabharwal.
Document 1: Document relates to what a police photographer told court. He says that he recorded the violence in the college but has now gone back on his statement.
But strangely, neither Chaurasia nor his video have been seen in court. In the photographs of the incident, Chaurasia is seen all over. Yet on hidden camera, he denied being there.
Chaurasia: There was a seminar that day and all top officers had come.
CNN-IBN: Are you in the photo?
Chaurasia: No, where?
CNN-IBN: So, is this someone else in the picture?
Chaurasia: Yes, it’s someone else.
But when confronted with the photographs that show him filming the violence at Madhav college, Chaurasia admitted he was there.
CNN-IBN: So this is someone else?
Chaurasia: Yes. This is someone else. (looks more closely) This is me.
CNN-IBN: So, this is you indeed?
Chaurasia: Yes. It’s me
The CID cameraman tried to hide the truth and said that he was not there when Sabharwal was assaulted by ABVP activists.
His denial is a clear message that CID is trying to cover up the case.
Document 2: Document on police photographer filing an official report that he filmed the violence at college on August 26, 2006.
