CID report: Guj against CBI inquiry

New Delhi: The Gujarat fake encounter case is under investigation. The confessional statement of one policeman arrested has been recorded say sources.

The investigating agency says that they are in possession of telephonic records and conversations between the accused police officers which confirms that they were involved in the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi

A report released by the investigating agency says that they have collected evidence and sent it for forensic analysis. The results of the tests are awaited. The evidence that has been collected so far is consistent with the allegations leveled against the police officers.

So far the investigating agency has arrested six policemen out of which the complicity of four is alleged.

The state CID is conducting a vigorous inquiry and the involvement of Andhra Pradesh Policemen is being probed. More arrests are likely in the coming days.

The report mentions that the statements of Andhra Police officers E Radhakrishaniah and Joint Commissioner, Hyderabad ATS, Rajiv Trivedi, have been recorded.

Sources have also said that IPS officer Geeta Johri's transfer was a routine matter and that rules were simply being followed when she was transfered out. They said that the officer who conducts the preliminary inquiry does not carry out the investigation as well.

However, there is a spanner in the investigations as the Gujarat government is opposing the CBI inquiry and the current investigation team is under tremendous pressure from the Modi government.

Sources have told CNN-IBN that political involvement in the fake encounter cannot be ruled out - this because one of the accused officers Pandian, is said to be very close to the Gujarat Minister of State, Home, Amit Shah.
