Kolkata: CITU on Monday said that law and order situation in the state on Tuesday might get disturbed "in view of the West Bengal government's aggressive posture" in opposing the nationwide general strike called by central trade unions.
"The way the government is taking an adamant stand in opposing the strike, we apprehend that peace may be disturbed in the state tomorrow", Citu state General Secretary Kali Ghosh said at a news conference here today.
He said that CITU had urged all its workers not to get trapped into any provocation at the instance of the opponents.
"The government is trying to create an atmosphere of fear psychosis in the minds of its employees", Ghosh said.
The state government had said that any government employee not reporting for duty on the strike day would be treated as break of service.
State INTUC Secretary Ramen Pandya said that the state government was trying to mislead the people by saying that not attending to office would attract penal provisions like break of service.
"This is killing of democracy", he said.
